An unexpected surprise

Our original plan was to leave really early in the morning on Thursday, but we stayed up so late the night before that we decided to sleep in a little. It was nice not be rushed out the door. Unfortunately, the problem with leaving late is that you arrive at your destination late. We had a long drive, so that meant a late night.

When we go on trips we use the navigation in our car and we also use google maps. Before we left we looked at the map and got an idea of which freeways we would be going on. As you might have guessed, there are several ways to get to Boston from where we live, so our car took us one route while google maps took us on another. Once we realized they were different we were taking a different route than we had previously mapped out. It wasn't a problem, we were just taking another route. As we looked at our new route we realized it was going to take us through New York City. Chad got very excited! We decided to take a little detour and drive around to show the boys what it was like.

By the time we got to New York City it was one o'clock in the morning. We actually had to wake up some of the boys, so they could experience NYC at night. All of the boys woke up and were excited by what they saw, although Kaden couldn't keep his eyes open and soon fell back asleep.

NYC is definitely the city that never sleeps! There were people and traffic everywhere. It was amazing to see. Chad showed us some of the hotels he has stayed at, as well as the NYC Stock Exchange. The boys were enchanted by the all the lights and skyscrapers.

We drove around for about an hour. We didn't stop and get out, but we still felt the energy of the place. We were able to see the Statue of Liberty (way out in the harbor), the bull from Sorcerer's Apprentice, Grand Central Station, Ground Zero (mainly just the fence around it), Time Square, and a sea of taxi cabs.

It was a fun detour and one that helped us get our energy back to finish our drive to Boston. Hopefully one day we will get back to New York City to do a little more exploring.
