We got a late start on our garden this year and we had some ups and downs, but we were blessed with lots of growth and some great vegetables!

October
We had high hopes for our squash and zucchini. It started out so nice, but then we started to see white spots on the leaves. We tried to treat it, but it was too late. All of our squash and zucchini plants died.
Our peppers, had a similar story. They did't get white spots, but something was eating them and they were quickly becoming covered by the squash and tomato plants. We got a couple of peppers, but none of them ever got very big.
Our tomatoes and cucumbers on the other hand did quite well. They were both late bloomers, but they grew and grew and grew. They grew so much that the plants and vegetables started growing out of the net (some grew with the net around them)!

We took a little bit of a hit while we were on our Maine trip, but we were still able to pick some tomatoes and cucumbers when we returned.

This was a good learning year for us. We look forward to trying again next year. We love having a garden and fresh vegetables. It is a good thing for our boys. I loved watching the boys check on the garden and report what was happening. Plus, a garden is always a good lesson on working.
