More DC fun!

Ever since my sister moved to DC we have heard about a restaurant known for it's unique burgers, The Counter.  We have always wanted to try it out and this trip we finally got our chance.  The idea behind The Counter is you build your own burger.  They list all the ingredients on the menu and you check off what you want.  They also have specialty burgers, but where is the fun in that!  The kids all had something from the kids menu, but Tanner is almost a teenager so we let him build his own burger.  He was pretty excited to be old enough!

Chad, Layne, Tanner and I all ordered differently.  I ordered a chicken burger and the rest ordered hamburgers.  We all had different toppings, but the consenses was the same - they were delicious!  We also ordered two kinds of fries - regular potato and sweet potato.  We had never tried sweet potato fries before and we really liked them.  They were definitely better than the regular fries and healthier (if you can say that about fries)!

The rest of our trip was pretty low key.  We hung around and helped Lindsay with her new baby.  The boys were more than happy to help with Cambria!

Up until this point Devon has been unexcited about his new sister.  By the end of our trip Devon was asking to hold Cambria quite often.  He even asked me if he could be the first one to hold Ashlyn when she was born!  That made my heart smile :)

Saturday morning the boys found Cameron and Colby's remote control helicopter.  They were so excited when Cameron gave them permission to try it out.  I only hope we didn't make Cameron nervous, my boys are crazy pilots!

It was pretty fun to watch the excitement on all the boys faces.  The best part for me, though was hearing Colby laugh.  That boy was cracking me up!!



This weekend was Conference weekend.  We love conference weekend and spending it with our extended family made it even better!  The boys all staked out their spots on the couch.

Colby, of course, took up his spot right next to Trevor.  It was cute and funny to watch Colby with Trevor.  Within minutes of sitting down, Colby was laying on top of Trevor.  Always the good sport, Trevor just smiled and laughed!!

In between sessions we went for a walk.  Lindsay lives just up the street from the quaint downtown area, so we decided to check it out - plus we wanted to pick up some bread from Great Harvest.  I'm not a huge Great Harvest fan, but I do like their chocolate chip pumpkin bread, so I had to get some.  After the bread store we walked over to the little train car that sits in downtown.  The kids loved climbing on it.  It is located right next to a really cool bike trail.  Since Chad brought his bike, he took advantage of his free time.  He went on a ride everyday we where in DC.  He couldn't stop talking about the trail for days after our trip!

When we got back from our walk Layne, Lindsay, Cambria and I went outside for a little photo shoot.  Lindsay had pictures taken of Cambria right after she was born, but didn't get a chance to take mother daughter pictures in that session, so she asked me if I would take a couple.  Well, unfortunately I don't know how to take just a couple of pictures, so we were outside for a while.  Cambria did great though and we had fun.  Here are some of my favorite shots.

We also did a quick family picture session.  Such a good looking family! Colby's smile was cracking me up!  Love those big blue eyes!!

After the second session of conference we had a quick dinner and then we headed over to the frozen custard store.  This is another treat we always hear about, so we gave it a try.  It didn't disappoint. we got to pick our favorite toppings. I chose Butterfinger - the best!  Other people chose things like Oreos, gummy worms, Heath Bar, etc.  Delicious - everyone gobbled theirs right up!

On our way out of the custard place Austin noticed Mickey Mouse (his favorite), so we had to stop and take a picture.

Saturday evening Chad and Cameron took Tanner to his first Priesthood session!  It was pretty fun to watch Chad help Tanner put on his tie.  Both of these guys have been looking forward to this day for a while! It's the beginning of a wonderful father son tradition (with many excited boys waiting in the wings)!

We had a wonderful vacation visiting and being with family!  We wish we could see our family more often, but we are so grateful when we get the chance.  We look forward to our next visit!
