With five boys, we are resigned to the fact that we will spend a significant amount of our free time on some sort of field or court. The only time of the year that we do not spend nearly every weeknight cheering on little boys is during the dead of winter (good thing they haven't found out about hockey yet). Soon after the start of each new year, however, they start to get anxious for spring.
Today was a milestone that our boys now look forward to every year . . . baseball registration. Perhaps even more than Puxatawny Phil, baseball registration is our annual sign that spring is near. This year the ritual was even more exciting because Devon will be playing this year too. Of course, with three boys playing baseball this year, we will be purchasing a camper and setting up camp in the parking lot next to the ball fields.
All of the boys were excited this morning for registration. They ran into the school gym where registration took place and proceeded to give me all sorts of advice to ensure that I didn't mess anything up for them during the registration process. When we got home, they got out all of their gear, tried it all on and got it all organized in their baseball bags. They've also begun spending more time throwing the ball and swinging the bat . . . sort of a self-inflicted spring training of sorts. It won't be long until the days get longer, the mosquitos get thicker and the umpire calls out "play ball!" We can't wait!
