Game Day!

Nope, this is not a post about the Super Bowl (although we did peak in a little). Today we had a nice relaxing day playing games with each other. Chad and I were looking forward to having a nice quiet Sunday - no meetings! Chad didn't have to go to another ward and I didn't have any late meetings. We haven't had one of those in quite a while. It was really nice to lay low and hang out with the fam!! One of the presents Kaden got for his birthday was a game collection. It has about 10 games. Today we tried out a couple. The first game Chad and the boys tried was Chinese Checkers. They all enjoy playing the game, but they did say that it lasted too long. I think they called it a tie and moved on.



The next game Tanner and Kaden tried out was Chess. Kaden has been playing Chess at our friends' house lately and he has really enjoyed it (they are the ones that gave him the present). Kaden was excited to tell Tanner how to play the game. Tanner picked it up quickly and Chad was close by to help out with strategy. It was fun to watch Chad getting into the game just as much as the boys did!











While Tanner and Kaden were playing chess Trevor and Devon were working on their journals. The boys write in their journals every week. They usually write a couple of sentences and then draw a picture to match. It has been fun to see how their writing and drawing improves over time.





After journals Trevor and Devon tried their hands at Tic Tac Toe. Devon didn't quite understand how to play, so I stepped in to help out. Trevor and I tried to teach Devon how to play, but most of the time he just wanted to make three in a row regardless if the game was over or not!





When Devon was through with Tic Tac Toe Trevor played Solitaire. It isn't the card game we are familiar with. It is kind of like checkers. You put all of the pieces on the board, leaving the center open. Then you have to jump pieces in order to remove them from the board. The object is to remove all of the pieces leaving only one on the board. Trevor did pretty well. He only had four pieces left at the end.





The last game Trevor, Devon and I played (while the other boys were still playing chess) was memory. Devon liked this game a lot. Both Trevor and Devon got excited each time they made a match. Most of the time Devon would get up and walk over to Chad (who was helping out with chess) to tell him that he made another match. It was really cute.







It was a lot of fun playing games as a family today. It reminded me of my family growing up. Some of my favorite memories are when we were sitting around the table playing games. Good times!
